Our client was a social housing operator, and this was one of a pair of two 1.5 x 1.2 x 1.2m galvanised mild steel cold water storage tanks that were supplying the cold water services to the bathrooms of 12 flats. Yes, people were brushing their teeth with water from these tanks!
Surface preparation was completed to remove all corrosion deposits and provide a surface profile of 75um to accept the new coating. Fibreglass repairs were required to seal the large holes and to add additional strength to the steel where it was thin.
All joints had a ‘stripe coat’ of DWPU applied, to build up a nominal thickness of 3 – 5mm in these critical areas. This was followed by a base coat of DWPU applied to all internal surfaces at a nominal thickness of 500 micron.
The above was repeated with a top coat of DWPU. A new ball valve was also installed as part of the works package.
