Case Study – Sectional GRP Water Tank

Our client was a very large office block with multiple sectional GRP tanks relined as part of a major water system refurbishment.  This was a duplex tank with each compartment sized at 4.0 x 4.0 x 3.0m.  The tank was suffering from gel coat deterioration and jointing mastic failure.  Additionally it had hollow lid supports that required replacing.

The hollow lid supports were replaced, excess mastic removed and the internal surfaces abraded to achieve a 75um surface profile to accept the coating.

All joints had a ‘stripe coat’ of DWPU applied, to build up a nominal thickness of 3 – 5mm in these critical areas.  This was followed by a base coat of DWPU applied to all internal surfaces at a nominal thickness of 500 micron.

The above was repeated for the top coat
